Roberto Mancini has played down speculation that Daniele De Rossi could make the switch from Roma to Manchester City in the transfer window.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from Stadio Olimpico and Mancini has previously admitted that he is a long-term admirer.
Mancini was reportedly monitoring De Rossi as a replacement for Yaya Toure, who plays in the African Cup of Nations next month. However, Mancini doubts whether the midfielder can be prised away from the Italian capital.
"I don't think so," said Mancini.
"De Rossi was born in Rome and it's unlikely that he'll leave the city.
"There are players that could be good for us, but every time we want to buy a player their clubs ask for lots of money."
De Rossi's contract with Roma expires at the end of the season.
