Leicester City are reportedly preparing to use Ruud van Nistelrooy's links to Manchester United in order to secure loan reinforcements during the January transfer window.

Leicester City are reportedly prepared to use their links to Manchester United during the January transfer window.

The Foxes are back in the Premier League at the first time of asking following promotion from the Championship as league winners during the 2023-24 term.

However, the East Midlands outfit have seen their fortunes plummet in recent times, struggling to keep pace at the top table of English football.

After a 3-1 defeat to pacesetters Liverpool on Boxing Day, the Foxes are currently occupying 18th spot in the Premier League standings, one point behind Wolverhampton Wanderers in the relative comfort of 17th.

Looking to cause an upset at the King Power Stadium before the turn of the calendar year, Leicester will host a stuttering Manchester City side on Sunday afternoon.

Leicester eyeing Man United stars?

According to Football Insider, relegation-threatened Leicester have drawn up part of their plan for the upcoming January transfer window, in which they will look to strengthen their ranks.

The report claims that the newly-promoted Foxes are prepared to use their links to Manchester United in order to secure a loan signing in the New Year.

Joining Leicester as head coach at the beginning of December, Ruud van Nistelrooy has spent the majority of this season at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Dutchman was originally an assistant to compatriot Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, before taking over as interim boss during the autumn.

It is understood that Leicester are still wary of overstepping the line in terms of Profit and Sustainability rules, so temporary deals appear more likely for players in January.

Who could join Leicester from Man United?

As the winter trading point draws nearer, it is believed that Leicester are targeting a new striker and a fresh centre-back before the deadline in February.

With that in mind, it is reasonable to ponder whether Man United's Harry Maguire could make a sensational mid-season return to the King Power Stadium.

The England international is not assured of his spot in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 system and might fancy moving back to the East Midlands club for the second half of the 2024-25 term.
