Newcastle United have reportedly joined the race for in-demand Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.
The Belgium international's future is currently the subject of much speculation, with both Arsenal and Manchester United believed to be keen on his signature.
According to The Telegraph, there is also firm interest from Newcastle, with the Magpies looking to boost their midfield department this year.
The report claims that Everton would want around £50m for Onana, and Eddie Howe's side would be prepared to pay that fee during this summer's transfer window.
Newcastle allegedly want to see whether it would be possible to agree a loan deal for the midfielder this month, with the deal then becoming permanent at the end of the campaign.
Howe's side are determined to sign a new midfielder before the end of the winter market, having been hit with the news that Joelinton is set to miss the remainder of the campaign with a groin issue.

Meanwhile, according to Sky Italia, Atletico Madrid have come to an agreement with Juventus over a loan deal for forward Moise Kean.
The 23-year-old has found it difficult to impress for Juventus during the 2023-24 campaign, failing to score or register an assist in 12 Serie A appearances.
Kean has not played for the Old Lady since the start of December due to a shin problem, but he is closing in on a return to fitness.
Atletico have allegedly agreed a loan deal with the Italian giants for the forward, who only has a contract with the Turin giants until the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
Kean has scored 22 goals and registered three assists in 115 appearances for Juventus, starting his professional career with the club before moving to Everton in 2019, but he then returned permanently in 2023 after a two-year loan spell at Juventus Stadium.

Elsewhere, Leeds United are hopeful of coming to an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over a permanent deal for central defender Joe Rodon.
The 26-year-old made the move to Elland Road on loan last summer, and he has impressed for the Championship club, featuring on 25 occasions in all competitions.
Rodon has made 24 Championship appearances, and according to Football Insider, the Whites are working on a permanent deal for the Wales international due to his impressive displays.
The report claims that an agreement in January is unlikely due to Tottenham's asking price, but the second-tier outfit are determined to secure a deal as soon as possible, with the club believing that other teams will be interested this summer if his strong form continues.
Rodon has made 24 appearances for Spurs since his arrival from Swansea City in 2020, and he also spent time out on loan last season, representing French outfit Rennes on 22 occasions.
