Davide Santon has claimed that Roma wanted to sign him from Inter Milan in the summer.
However, a move to the Stadio Olimpico never materialised and the full-back ended up joining Newcastle United in August.
"Yes, Roma were interested," Santon told Tuttomercato. "There was talk about it, but in the end nothing concrete happened.
"Then, Newcastle made an offer. At first, they wanted to sign me on loan, but then they decided to buy me outright, with Inter's consent."
Santon has made 14 appearances for the Magpies this season.
