Stanislas Wawrinka hails "important victory"

French Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka admits that his win over David Goffin at Wimbledon was on "important victory" for him.

Fourth seed Stanislas Wawrinka has described his straight-sets win over Belgium's David Goffin at Wimbledon as an "important victory" for him.

The French Open champion is in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for just the second time in 11 appearances, having made the last eight for the first time in his career in 2014.

The Swiss told reporters: "It was a tough one. But I am really happy with the victory, especially in three sets. I wasn't moving great and was a little bit soft in general. But I am happy to get through. This was an important victory for me."

Wawrinka will face France's Richard Gasquet for a spot in the semi-finals tomorrow.
