Sion have announced the signing of former AC Milan star Gennaro Gattuso on a two-year contract.
The 34-year-old was expected to join the Swiss side, despite initially being poised to move to Galatasaray.
"Money had nothing to do with this choice," said Gattuso. "I decided to come to Sion because I was convinced by the club's project.
"Many people advised me not to accept, but I wanted to take on this challenge after speaking with the president [Christian Constantin]. I am here to win - we want to challenge Basel [for the title]."
Gattuso spent 13 years with Milan before deciding to leave the club at the end of the season.
