Petr Cech claims that Chelsea's experience gives them the advantage over Spurs in the battle for Champions League qualification.

Petr Cech has claimed that Chelsea's experience gives them an advantage over Tottenham Hotspur in the race for a top-four finish.

The Blues currently sit in fifth position, four points behind their London rivals, with Arsenal separating the sides in fourth.

Despite Spurs' preferential position in the table, Cech believes that Chelsea are favourites to secure Champions League qualification due to their superior experience.

"We have been together through so many situations in eight years and a lot of people here remember those, so we have the benefit of the experience of that," he told the London Evening Standard.

"We seem to cope with the difficult situations quite well so, hopefully, this experience we've got throughout the years will help us reach our targets.

"We are approaching these next two games with confidence now. In football everything changes with positive results."

Cech joined Chelsea from French side Rennes for a fee of £7m in 2004.
