UEFA have handed an official warning to Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere after the 20-year-old suggested that he had placed a bet on the Gunners.
The England midfielder, who was injured at the time, implied on his Twitter page that he had placed a £10 bet on fellow Gunners star Emmanuel Frimpong to score during a Champions League match in December.
A UEFA spokesman stated: "The player has been warned for being in breach of the principles of integrity of matches and competitions. The disciplinary measure was a warning."
Under official rules, all players are banned from betting on games involving their own team – regardless of whether they are taking part in the match.
If Wilshere had been found guilty of breaching betting rules, he would have faced a substantial fine and probable ban.
