Emir Spahic has committed his future to Bayer Leverkusen by signing a one-year extension to extend his stay at the BayArena.
Reports had suggested that the 34-year-old could have been forced to look for a new team at the end of the season, but Leverkusen have responded to make sure Spahic, who moved to the Bundesliga from Sevilla last summer, will be at the club until the summer of 2016.
"I'm part of a great team here in Leverkusen," the Bosnia and Herzegovina international told the club's website. "We've got an ambitious side that can still develop and I believe there is plenty we can still achieve together.
"I feel very settled in Leverkusen and would like to use my experience to help our young team."
Spahic played the whole game as Leverkusen were held to a goalless draw by Mainz 05 on Saturday afternoon.
