League One's Sheffield Wednesday have earned themselves a place in the second round of the Carling Cup with a 4-2 penalty shoot-out win against Championship side Blackpool at Hillsborough.
In a match of few chances, the most notable incident came with 15 minutes to play when Ashley Eastham was sent off for the visitors following a challenge on Mark Reynolds.
After a goalless 90 minutes, neither side could find the net in the two periods of extra time that followed, so the game headed to penalties.
Misses by Billy Clarke and Neal Eardley meant that James O'Connor's successful kick sent the Owls through to the next round.
