Corinthians honoured one of their all-time heroes Socrates by winning their first Brazilian title on the same day the 57-year-old passed away.
News of the former Brazil captain's death was announced early on Sunday morning, just hours before the Sao Paulo club's crucial game against Palmeiras.
Before the game, supporters held up banners reading "Doctor Socrates, rest in peace" and a minute's silence was drowned out by chants of "Doctor" - Socrates's nickname.
The home side went on to record the goalless draw they needed in a heated encounter, which saw two men sent off from either side, to spark wild celebrations as they clinched their fifth Campeonato Brasileiro.
"The Corinthians nation woke up very sad today because of the loss of this incredible person," said striker Liedson.
"The title comes as a small way to honour him."
