England manager Roy Hodgson has described the squad's recent troubles with injuries as 'unlucky'.
The Three Lions, who are already without the likes of Wayne Rooney and Phil Jones, were dealt a fresh blow when striker Daniel Sturridge was ruled out of tomorrow's World Cup qualifier against Moldova today.
"We have not exactly been lucky with injuries," Hodgson said in a press conference. "We have lost five players that a couple of weeks ago I was really banking on, but it is an opportunity for those who would not have got a game to do a job.
"Daniel Sturridge has worked hard at his treatment. The initial prognosis was that he would not be fit for either game. It will be touch and go for Tuesday [against Ukraine] but we won't know until Sunday."
Defender Steven Caulker has also been ruled out with an ankle problem.
