Roger Espinoza: 'England need to control possession'

Honduras midfielder Roger Espinoza feels that England's fate in the World Cup will hinge on how well they keep the ball in the heat in Brazil.

Honduras midfielder Roger Espinoza believes that England will have to control possession in their World Cup matches to avoid suffering against the heat in Brazil.

The Wigan Athletic man has revealed that he knows from experience that English players struggle in warmer climates, and feels that Roy Hodgson's side must learn from their goalless draw against Honduras as to how to play in those conditions.

Espinoza told reporters: "I think it will be a big factor for England. England players are not used to it. I remember where I live in Manchester, going to Wigan, the sun came out but it's an artificial sun.

"We would come here to the States in pre-season with Wigan and you can tell how tough it is for the English players, Scottish and Irish guys too, to come on this side of the world.

"Manaus is very, very hot. If they keep the ball like they did against us, they will not get tired. But it will be dangerous for them if they don't keep the ball because it is going to be hot."

England face Italy in their World Cup opener in Manaus on Saturday.
