Yohan Cabaye had insisted that France were unlucky not beat Spain following their quarter-final exit at Euro 2012 on Saturday night.
Two goals from Xabi Alonso were enough to give the defending champions a 2-0 victory over Les Bleus in Donetsk.
However, Cabaye believes that his teammates could have triumphed on another day.
"We were not ridiculous," he told the French Football Association's official website. "We have done the essential which was to reach the quarters.
"We knew that in the game we could win, but we couldn't quite do it."
Spain's win was the first time that they had beaten the French at a major tournament.
