Antonio Rudiger ruled out of Euro 2016

Germany defender Antonio Rudiger is ruled out of Euro 2016 after rupturing his ACL during a training session.

Germany defender Antonio Rudiger has been ruled out of Euro 2016 after picking up an injury in training.

The 23-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during a session on Tuesday, just five days before Germany are due to get their campaign underway against Ukraine in Lille.

The injury is another blow for Joachim Low, who could also be without Mats Hummels for their opening game as he continues to struggle with an injury of his own.

Rudiger has started all five of Germany's matches since the end of their qualification campaign, including the 2-0 win over Hungary in their final warm-up game on Saturday.

A replacement has not yet been announced for the Roma man, who is also likely to miss the start of the 2016-17 campaign should the injury be as serious as feared.

The world champions will also take on Poland and Northern Ireland at this summer's tournament.
