Kenny Dalglish has taken to Twitter to pay tribute to Liverpool supporters following his departure from the club.
The Scot was relieved of his duties following a disappointing Premier League season in which the Anfield outfit finished in eighth place, below bitter rivals Everton.
Dalglish has since expressed his gratitude for the support he received from fans during his second spell in charge of the club.
He wrote: "Overwhelmed by support of the fans. Always been special but even more so now. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You'll never walk alone, and I never have."
Wigan Athletic's Roberto Martinez has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Dalglish following reports that his club have given Liverpool permission to hold talks with him.
However, the Merseysiders are expected to contact a number of other candidates about the vacancy.
