James Milner has revealed that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers wants to give the midfielder a central role in the team.
The England international completed his move to Anfield on Monday on a free transfer from Manchester City.
The 29-year-old generally played out wide during his five-year spell at City, but following the departure of Steven Gerrard, Milner is expected to be fielded in the middle of the park.
"I want to play football and play more centrally if I can, and that's where the manager said he sees me playing," Milner told the club's official website.
"That's a big thing for me coming to the later stages of my career. I'm not going to say the end of my career because I still feel I have plenty of football left in me. I want to play as much football as I can."
Milner will wear the number seven shirt, which was vacated by Luis Suarez last year.
