Manuel Pellegrini hopeful of Martin Demichelis stay

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is adamant that he wants defender Martin Demichelis to sign a new contract with the club.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini is hopeful that defender Martin Demichelis will sign a new contract with the club.

The Argentine's deal with the Citizens expires at the end of the season, but Pellegrini is adamant that he wants the 34-year-old to remain with the club after becoming an integral part of his defence.

Pellegrini told Sky Sports News: "He will finish his contract at the end of the season.

"I think he's a very important player for us and I hope that he will start soon his talks about a new contract - and that they will conclude in the right way."

Demichelis is expected to line up for City in their Premier League match against Sunderland later today.
