New West Ham United manager David Moyes has confirmed that his side are interested in Benfica midfielder and Manchester United target Gedson Fernandes.
The Scot wants to add a central midfielder to his side in the January transfer window and he has confirmed that the 20-year-old Portuguese international is among their list of potential options.
Speaking to reporters before their FA Cup third-round game with Gillingham on Sunday, Moyes said: "I do not think I would say we are in deep talks. He is a name that has been mentioned alongside many others names. If we can strengthen the squad I would like to do so but it would only be for the players we think are correct.
"He comes into the category [of player we are looking for]. We want to add a player in that department and trying to get the right one in January would never be easy for anybody. If we could add one to the group then it would help us.
"If good players are available, there are no doubts me and the owners will be looking at them."
Fernandes, who has made nine appearances for Benfica in all competitions this season, has been heavily linked with a possible switch to Old Trafford in recent days.
