Newcastle United complete the signing of Brazil international midfielder Bruno Guimaraes on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Lyon.

Newcastle United have completed the signing of midfielder Bruno Guimaraes on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Lyon.

The 24-year-old, who will wear the number 39 shirt at St James' Park, moves to the Magpies for an undisclosed fee, thought to be worth around £30m.

Guimaraes becomes Newcastle's third signing of the January window, following in the footsteps of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.

The fee is thought to be enough to see the Brazilian international displace Wood as Newcastle's second-most expensive signing of all time, behind only Joelinton.

"Bruno is a hugely exciting talent and has been one of our primary targets so I'm delighted to secure him. He strengthens the group immediately ready for the challenge ahead," read a statement from manager Eddie Howe.

"He has been one of the standout performers in France and is a full international for Brazil so I have no doubt our supporters will really enjoy watching him. We look forward to welcoming him to the club on his return from international duty."

Guimaraes could make his debut for Newcastle when they face Everton on February 8.
