Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has rejected Barcelona president Sandro Rosell's suggestion that Europe's major leagues should be reduced to 16 clubs.
Rosell claims that such a move would allow Champions League fixtures to be played on the weekend.
However, Scudamore has said that he is vehemently against the proposal.
"Well that's very nice of him to issue that as a statement but that's a very Barcelona-centric view," he told CNN.
"Our clubs have no view whatsoever to be playing European football on a weekend. European football is a midweek competition, and domestic football is a weekend competition."
Scudamore is one of a number of figures to haved condemned FIFA president Sepp Blatter over the recent comments that he made about racism in football.
