Gareth Bale will be unfit to play for the rest of the season Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed.
The Welsh international was injured during Saturday’s draw against Blackpool as a result of a challenge from Charlie Adam. After meeting with a specialist he has been diagnosed with a ruptured ankle ligament.
“It’s a blow but we have been without Gareth quite a bit recently,” manager Harry Redknapp said. “He has had injuries and he hasn’t really come back from those injuries to [his previous] form.”
“He has had a fantastic season. The first three-quarters of the season, he was unplayable. He was making goals and scoring goals and he won player of the year.
“Over the last couple of months the injury has taken its toll on him. During that time he hasn’t quite been the same boy and now he has another injury that rules him out again.”
Spurs have three games remaining this season, beginning with a meeting with Manchester City tomorrow, followed by Liverpool and Birmingham City.
Bale is expected to be fit by the beginning of pre-season.
