Real Madrid through to Copa del Rey last 16

Angel di Maria is on target for Real Madrid as they overcome Olimpic de Xativa to progress to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid have progressed to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with a 2-0 victory over Olimpic de Xativa.

The Spanish giants headed into the second leg of their round-of-32 tie on Wednesday with the score locked at 0-0 from the first leg played earlier this month.

However, Carlo Ancelotti's side were in dominant mood at the Santiago Bernabeu right from the start and went ahead after just 16 minutes through Asier Illarramendi.

It became 2-0 just before the half-hour mark when Angel di Maria successfully converted a penalty after a foul on Alvaro Morata had been committed inside the Olimpic area.

The visitors stepped up their game in the second half, but Madrid continued to have the better chances, although Los Blancos failed to take them.
