Arsene Wenger defends Gunners' finances

Manager Arsene Wenger defends Arsenal's financial situation, describing the North London club's strong position off the pitch.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is upset over the way the club's finances are "slaughtered" for the way they're handled.

The Frenchman accepts that his side's start to the season on the pitch has been indifferent but is happy with the situation off the pitch.

"At the end of the day, when we look well at the situation, we are in a strong position," said Wenger.

"If you look at the quality of the players we have, and also financially - we are one of the few clubs in England who balance the accounts.

"Rather than being praised for that, we are slaughtered for it. In a world that is bankrupt, it is quite amazing, so I think the situation is not as negative as the impression our fans could have."

Wenger's side travel to Chelsea on Saturday lunchtime.
