Middlesbrough: On-loan Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo could miss rest of season

Middlesbrough could be without Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo for the rest of the season after he injured his groin on international duty with Nigeria.

Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo might not play for Middlesbrough again this season after suffering a groin injury while on international duty with Nigeria.

The 21-year-old was substituted after just 13 minutes of the Super Eagles' 1-1 draw with South Africa yesterday.

According to the Northern Echo, Boro's medical staff will now assess the extent of the injury, but he is considered a major doubt for the final month of the season.

Omeruo has been on loan at Boro for the last season and a half, but has been out of favour of late having not appeared in seven of the Championship side's last eight games.

If he is ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, Boro will be pleased that they secured the loan of Fernando Amorebieta last week, so he can provide defensive cover as the North-East side chase promotion.
