John Terry: 'Jose Mourinho was right to sell David Luiz, Juan Mata'

Chelsea captain John Terry is adamant that manager Jose Mourinho was right to allow Juan Mata and David Luiz to leave Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea skipper John Terry has expressed his belief that Jose Mourinho made the right decision to let Juan Mata and David Luiz leave the club.

The Portuguese sold Mata to Manchester United for £30m, while Luiz followed suit last summer in a switch to Paris Saint-Germain for a fee in the region of £50m.

The 34-year-old feels that the timing of the moves was right for the Blues as he claims Mourinho knows when players have taken their "foot off the gas".

"You look at some of the world-class players we've had, Juan Mata, David Luiz, players like that who've left the club," Terry told The Sun.

"He's seen something — I don't know what — to let those big players go. He also knows when players take their foot off the gas."

Terry signed a new one-year contract extension with the Blues to prolong his career at Stamford Bridge.
