England defender Ashley Cole describes the current squad as "bulldogs" ahead of Sunday's Euro 2012 quarter-final with Italy.

Ashley Cole has described the England squad as "bulldogs" ahead of their Euro 2012 quarter-final against Italy on Sunday.

The full-back, who notched up his 97th cap for his country against Ukraine, is looking to get past the quarter-finals for the first time with the Three Lions.

"I have never had the joy of winning for my country and I am not getting too far ahead of myself or the team but so far it is going well," the 31-year-old told BBC Sport.

"This is my fourth quarter-final now and I have bad memories of the others, so I want to look back at those and think about what I did and what could help me for this one.

"We are like 11 bulldogs who never give up and basically will die on the pitch for each other. So far it seems to be working."

Cole made his international debut against Albania in 2001.
