James McCarthy 'honoured' to get Everton start

James McCarthy says that it was an "honour" to be given his first Everton start at Goodison Park against Newcastle United on Monday.

Everton midfielder James McCarthy has expressed his delight at receiving his first start at Goodison Park against Newcastle United on Monday.

The 22-year-old was handed his full league debut from manager Roberto Martinez in their 3-2 win over the Magpies following his arrival from Wigan Athletic on deadline day.

"It was brilliant to get out there in front of the home fans," McCarthy told Everton TV. "It's what you dream of as a kid to come and play at such a big stadium like Goodison. The fans were different class and it was a real honour to get my first start, especially at home."

The Toffees remain the only Premier League club unbeaten so far this season.
