Steven Gerrard "big believer" in Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp

Steven Gerrard says that he is a "big believer" in Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who has guided the team to just one win in seven.

Steven Gerrard has given his backing to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Merseyside outfit have picked up just one win in their last seven matches in all competitions, with the team's defensive frailties being highlighted.

As it stands, Klopp's men sit seventh in the Premier League table, seven points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

The team have kept just two clean sheets in 12 fixtures in all competitions, but Gerrard, who spent 17 years at Liverpool, remains optimistic about the club securing success this season.

"The league doesn't lie - Liverpool are where they are, but what I would say is I am really enjoying watching the team at the moment," Gerrard told Sky Sports News. "I love the manager. I think he has taken this team and the club forward. There is a lot of excitement about.

"I can see Jurgen is a little bit frustrated at the moment but so are we all. We are all fans. Of course, it could have been a little bit better if chances had gone in or individual errors could have been avoided, but we are seven games in and Liverpool are capable of going on a long run of winning games.

"I am very, very confident that this season can be a success, whether that be in the league or in Europe or the FA Cup. I am a big, big believer in this manager."

Liverpool will face arch rivals Manchester United at Anfield after the international break on October 14.
