Steven Gerrard: 'I could leave Liverpool in the summer'

Steven Gerrard admits that he could leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Steven Gerrard has refused to rule out the possibility of signing for another club when his Liverpool contract expires at the end of the season.

The former England captain insists that he has no intention of retiring when the current campaign comes to an end, and he would be prepared to leave Anfield should Brendan Rodgers decide against offering him a new deal.

"I'm only contracted until May," the 34-year-old told the Daily Mail. "As it stands, I'm here until the end of the season and want to make the most of it.

"I certainly won't be retiring this summer. I will play beyond this season. We'll have to wait and see if that's at Liverpool or somewhere else.

"That's Liverpool's decision. If they don't come then I will see what's out there."

Ian Callaghan and Jamie Carragher are the only players to have made more appearances for Liverpool than Gerrard.
