Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has warned that the club should be "careful" offering Luis Suarez a new contract.
Reports in The Guardian suggest that Brendan Rodgers is planning to offer Suarez a new deal, with the Uruguayan's 17 goals this season helping to guide his team into second place in the Premier League table.
Despite this, Hamann has advised Liverpool to learn from last summer when the player tried to force a move away from the Merseyside club.
"The way he is playing at the moment you have got to think he is very happy, but you have got to be careful because the team is on a good run," the former German international told talkSPORT.
"What must not happen is we have a situation next summer as we had last summer. He could sign a new contract now, take the £200,000 a week, the team finishes outside the top four and you have the same shenanigans."
Liverpool have the opportunity to go top of the table this weekend when they face Cardiff at Anfield on Saturday lunchtime.
