Ryan Giggs reveals that Sir Alex Ferguson is managing his fitness in order to keep him playing towards 40.

Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson is managing his career towards a major milestone.

Giggs turns 40 in November, and although he has not decided whether he will carry on playing past this season, he appreciates the manager's understanding.

"The manager is brilliant with me," Giggs told the Sunday People. "He really allows me to manage myself in terms of fitness and training.

"I suppose I get an easier ride than some of the younger lads. Don't get me wrong, my fitness has to be spot on. The main thing is my recovery after games which can be hard sometimes.

"As for normal training I do what the others lads do. The only difference is that my recovery process is slightly longer at my age and the manager appreciates that."

Giggs went on to say that he is concentrating on doing well this season and will not think about a potential new contract until the summer.
