Iker Casillas: 'Victor Valdes will recover from Manchester United situation'

Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas believes that Victor Valdes will recover from his time at Manchester United, after being frozen out by manager Louis van Gaal.

Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas has offered his support to Manchester United's Victor Valdes, after the former Barcelona player was frozen out by manager Louis van Gaal.

The 34-year-old - who recently departed Real Madrid for the Portuguese giants - insists that he is shocked at the situation Valdes is currently in at Old Trafford, but believes that the 33-year-old will soon find a successful resolution.

Speaking to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Casillas said: "I want to send all my support and a lot of encouragement to Victor. This is proof that at times football is ungrateful. He deserves to find a solution soon because of the type of player he is.

"Had they told us a year-and-a-half ago that he would be in this situation, no one would have believed it. Obviously, no one wishes him that. I know he will come out of this situation because he has a privileged mind and I really hope he comes out of this.

"I'm certain he will succeed because we all get back to enjoying ourselves [after leaving a club]."

Valdes has made just two appearances for United after joining the club on a free transfer in January.
