Louis van Gaal has claimed that Manchester United's performance against Inter Milan in the early hours of Wednesday morning was the best he has seen during his short spell with the club.
The Dutchman's side enjoyed the better of the exchanges in the goalless 90 minutes before securing a win on penalties in the International Champions Cup, and Van Gaal was impressed with what he witnessed at the FedEx Field in Maryland.
"I am very pleased," the United boss told the club's official website. "I think we played by far the best match of our sequence of three.
"I was very pleased with our ball possession. It was much better than the other matches, and I think also the positions were better covered.
"So I was tonight very pleased with the performance of my players, both in the first half and the second half."
The squad's tour of the USA concludes with a game against Real Madrid on Saturday night.
