Manchester United to extend Edinson Cavani contract?

Manchester United reportedly want to tie Edinson Cavani down to a new deal until 2022, with Ed Woodward already speaking to the striker regarding an extension.

Manchester United are reportedly keen to extend Edinson Cavani's contract following the striker's impressive start to life at Old Trafford.

The former Paris Saint-Germain man has made an instant impact with the Red Devils since his summer arrival, boasting three goals and two assists in eight Premier League appearances so far.

Cavani only penned a one-year deal with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side when he signed for the club, but the Man United manager can envisage the 33-year-old playing at the top level for "a few more years" after his quick adaptation to the English game.

According to the Daily Star, United are preparing a 12-month extension for Cavani, with the Red Devils hoping to fend off any clubs with aspirations of landing the Uruguay international on a free next summer.

The report claims that Ed Woodward has already held talks with Cavani regarding a new deal, and the veteran wants to remain at Old Trafford for at least another year.

Cavani provided the assist for Bruno Fernandes's goal in Man United's 2-2 draw with Leicester City on Boxing Day, and the South American will be eyeing a start when Wolverhampton Wanderers make the trip to Old Trafford on Tuesday.
