Report: Manchester United's David de Gea available for £51.7m

Reports in the Spanish press claim that Real Madrid target David de Gea has a £51.7m release clause written into the contract signed at Manchester United last year.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has a £51.7m release clause written into his contract, according to a report.

The Spain international was close to joining La Liga giants Real Madrid in 2015, only for paperwork to hold up the last-minute transfer.

De Gea soon put pen to paper on fresh terms at Old Trafford, but that has not stopped further talk of a move away, as Los Blancos are still said to be interested in bringing the star stopper to the Spanish capital if they are cleared to make transfers in the New Year.

Spanish publication Marca claims that any team looking to nab De Gea will have to splash out a record sum of money for a keeper, however, surpassing the £33m paid by Juventus to sign Gianluigi Buffon from Parma in 2001.

De Gea, who still has two-and-a-half seasons left to run on his current deal, is expected to win his 19th cap for Spain in Tuesday's friendly with England at Wembley Stadium.
