Alan Pardew slams Robbie Savage criticism

Under-fire Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew criticises Robbie Savage for the way that the BBC Sport pundit described him as "a broken man" this week.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has criticised Robbie Savage for the comments made by the BBC Sport pundit about his management of the club.

Pardew has come under severe pressure at Newcastle in recent weeks and a number of fans protested to call for his sacking during yesterday's 2-2 draw with Hull City.

However, the 53-year-old said in the aftermath of the game that many of the things said about him are simply not true.

"Sometimes there are some really unfair things said," he told BBC Sport. "I'll pick out Robbie Savage for this week, because he said I was a broken man and I was far from that this week.

"I've tried to carry the job with dignity and be honest and sometimes it's nice if professionals in the game reflect that.

"Sometimes it's also important to know we're trying to do an honest job."

Pardew has vowed to "fight on" as Newcastle manager and he has received the backing of owner Mike Ashley.
