Newcastle United forward Georginio Wijnaldum has called on the board to keep hold of manager Steve McClaren.
Wijnaldum helped ease some of the pressure off McClaren's shoulders by forcing an own goal from Martin Skrtel and scoring a second in a 2-0 triumph over Liverpool at St James' Park on Sunday.
Despite the win, the Magpies remain in the relegation zone of the Premier League after winning just three of their 15 top-flight games.
"For this club, he is the best we can get right now," the Daily Star quotes Wijnaldum as saying. "I hope the club will give him the faith and keep him here.
"It is not his fault that we performed badly. It is the fault of the players - that's the thing in football. When results go wrong, everyone says the trainer is responsible for that. It's not fair every time."
Newcastle will face Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
