Luke Varney scored twice as Portsmouth beat Doncaster 3-1 at Fratton Park this afternoon.
The striker put the home side ahead, poking the ball into the back of the net after just three minutes when goalkeeper Stephen Henderson's long goal kick went untouched into the Doncaster area.
However, Doncaster's Simon Gillett levelled the score before 30 minutes from John Oster's corner, which sent both sides into the break with a goal apiece.
Former Reading striker Dave Kitson put the home side back ahead after an hour, knocking David Norris's goal-bound attempt over the line to restore their one-goal lead.
Varney then added his second of the match and fifth of the season on 74 minutes, placing the ball into the bottom corner from inside the area.
The result leaves Doncaster in the relegation zone with eight points on the season, while Portsmouth sit in 15th.
