Rangers are in negotiations with Dundee United over a move for Jon Daly when their transfer embargo ends on September 1.
The Glasgow club are banned from signing players until that time, but can talk to free agents and offer trials.
Daly, who has scored 12 goals in 35 appearances for the Tannadice outfit this season, is out of contract in the summer.
Several clubs are reportedly interested in the 30-year-old striker, so Rangers have written to United to ask permission for talks with Daly and hope to have an agreement in place before other potential suitors approach the Tangerines captain.
Daly moved to Scotland from Hartlepool United in 2007.
