Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray confirms bid for Sam Hutchinson

Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray confirms that a bid has been made for former Chelsea defender Sam Hutchinson following his release from the London club.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray has confirmed that the club has made a bid for former Chelsea defender Sam Hutchinson.

The 24-year-old was released by Chelsea after finishing the season on loan at Wednesday, but Hutchinson is wanted back at Hillsborough on a permanent deal.

Gray told Sky Sports News: "Sam is available on a free. An offer has gone in for him. I think he's away on holiday with his family at the moment. The club are talking with his agent. I am keen to re-sign Sam."

Hutchinson was forced to retire earlier in his career due to a recurring knee injury, but the defender has now been linked with a number of clubs after making a comeback to football.

The former Chelsea man made 10 appearances for Wednesday last season, but was sent off twice.
