Former Southampton boss Lawrie McMenemy has described the club's appointment of Ronald Koeman as a "masterstroke".
The Saints have enjoyed a successful campaign under the Dutchman, who arrived at St Mary's Stadium last summer as a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino.
Southampton are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table, but they could finish as high as fifth if results go their way on the final day of the season.
McMenemy believes that Koeman has done a stellar job in pushing the club forward following big changes both on and off the pitch 12 months ago.
"The appointment of Ronald Koeman was a masterstroke," he told BBC Sport. "I was disappointed when I saw the door open and so many go out [at the start of the season]. When the manager, chairman and players went, I thought 'this is unheard of'. Half of the outfield team that had done so well left.
"It's all to do with the management in the end, and he got them in and got the best out of them, and we can look forward with hope that we can do even better."
Southampton play their final game of the season on Sunday when they travel to former champions Manchester City.
