Late AS Monaco goal cancels out Tottenham Hotspur opener

Tottenham Hotspur and AS Monaco play out a 1-1 draw in the Europa League.

Tottenham Hotspur remain at the top of Group A in the Europa League after a 1-1 draw at AS Monaco.

After a slow start to the match, it was Spurs who had the game's first chance in the 20th minute. Harry Kane cut the ball back to Nacer Chadli but the midfielder curled it over the bar from the edge of the penalty area.

Adama Traore nearly made Tottenham pay when he picked up a loose ball in midfield, but his long-range effort was parried by Hugo Lloris and Jan Vertonghen cleared the danger.

Tottenham were ahead after 35 minutes after a slick counter-attack eventually found its way to Dele Alli whose shot was parried by Danijel Subasic, but Erik Lamela was first to the ball to tap into the net.

Three minutes later, Harry Kane's shot hit Subasic on the face and a Monaco cross at the other end was headed over by Lacina Traore.

Monaco had an appeal for a penalty turned down on the hour mark, when the ball appeared to hit Danny Rose's hand on the edge of the area.

The scores were level with nine minutes remaining when Nabil Dirar's cross was met by the head of substitute Stephan El Shaarawy, who finished from close range.

The goal galvanised Monaco and they nearly took the lead just two minutes later. Dirar's powerful strike was parried by Lloris and Guido Carrillo's rebound effort was blocked by Rose.
