Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has confirmed that he was interested in bringing Saido Berahino to the club from West Bromwich Albion this month.
Berahino has once again been one of the main subjects of deadline day, reportedly courting interest from Newcastle United, Stoke and Tottenham Hotspur.
Hughes revealed that he has requested to be kept up to date on the situation, but hinted that the Baggies are unwilling to sell the 22-year-old striker.
"I think it's been mentioned we might have been in the market for a certain West Brom player," Hughes told reporters.
"We expressed an interest and asked to be informed. West Brom have been quite consistent in their message that Berahino wasn't available."
Newcastle United are also understood to have withdrawn their interest in the player after seeing a £21m bid rejected.
