Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly failed with a bid of £6.5m for Derby County striker Chris Martin.
After a successful takeover from Fosun International, Wolves have the funds to make a number of high-profile signings before the end of the transfer window and if reports are to be believed, they have targeted a player from the opposite side of the Midlands.
According to the Derby Telegraph, Wolves tabled the offer earlier this week but it was instantly rejected by their Championship promotion rivals.
The Black Country outfit are expected to return with a second bid but it is unclear whether Derby will entertain the idea of selling last season's top goalscorer.
Martin started Saturday's game with Brighton & Hove Albion on the substitutes' bench but he is still considered a major part of the first-team squad at the iPro Stadium.
