Juan Monaco has booked his spot in the third round of the Monte Carlo Masters following a 6-0 3-6 6-3 victory over Latvian Ernests Gulbis on Wednesday.
The Spaniard made light work of his opponent in the first set as he secured three successive breaks before serving his way to a one-set lead after just 33 minutes.
Monaco continued to impress in the early stages of the second as he broke Gulbis's opening service game, but the Latvian secured two breaks of his own in the latter stages before claiming the set 6-3.
Both players demonstrated some of their best tennis in the third and final set, but two breaks of serve for Monaco moved the Spaniard into a 5-1 lead.
Gulbis broke back before holding to move 5-3 behind in the latter stages, but Monaco served out the match in style to book his spot in round three after exactly two hours of tennis.
