Gilles Simon claims a spot in the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters after seeing off Janko Tipsarevic in a three-set contest.

Gilles Simon has ousted Janko Tipsarevic in a 6-0 4-6 6-1 victory to reach the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters.

Simon stunned his Serbian opponent by storming to a 6-0 victory in the opening set of the third round, with Tipsarevic failing to impose his game on the 27-year-old.

The second set was more fairly matched, with the world number eight committing some important shots to keep him in contention of the quarter-finals.

Tipsarevic managed to do enough to equal the scoreline after breaking his French opponent and claiming the second set 6-4.

Despite a positive surge from the Serbian, Simon's executed shots were successful in holding off his opponent and clinching the third set to reach the quarter-finals in Monaco.
