Marin Cilic has completed a 7-5 6-1 victory over Martin Klizan at the Shanghai Masters to secure a place in the second round of the competition.
The first set went to the wire with games going by the way of serve and a tie-break looked likely until Cilic grabbed a vital break to take the set lead in China.
While the first set was a rather equal affair, the second went much more in the Croatian's favour after he took control of the court with precise forehands and quick returns, which helped him take the first break point.
Cilic managed to keep his strong hold on the game and wrap up the contest comfortably, leaving Klizan ruing his performance in the second set.
