Arsene Wenger "regrets" previous Group D slip-ups

Arsene Wenger admits that Arsenal now "regret" their previous Champions League slip-ups after finishing second to Borussia Dortmund on goal difference in Group D.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that Arsenal now "regret" their previous Champions League slip-ups after finishing runners-up to Borussia Dortmund in Group D.

The Gunners thrashed Galatasaray 4-1 on Tuesday to move level on points with the Germans, who progress as group winners due to a superior goal difference.

Wenger's side will therefore likely face more difficult opposition in the last 16 of the competition, and the Frenchman has conceded that their defeat in Dortmund and home draw with Anderlecht, where they surrendered a three-goal lead, could now prove costly.

"We had two favourites who responded to being favourites," he told Sky Sports News. "We have regrets about our game in Dortmund.

"At home, we did the job well. Overall, we won four games and had one draw but that point against Anderlecht at home we can regret."

Last year's finalists, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, as well as Wenger's former club Monaco, Bayern Munich and Porto are already among Arsenal's possible last-16 opponents.
