UEFA have refused to share out European prize money to 23 clubs following their failure to pay the relevant tax bills and debts.
The decision was made in relation to the regulations of the financial fair play rules, which permit sanctions on clubs that have not paid debts.
The clubs affected include La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid as well as Malaga, Sporting Lisbon and Fenerbahce.
UEFA released a statement, which said: "The clubs participating in UEFA club competitions had to provide information regarding the status of any overdue payables as at June 30, 2012.
"The Club Financial Control Body investigatory chamber has identified that important overdue payables towards other clubs, and/or towards employees or social/tax authorities existed in 23 cases."
The relevant prize money will not be awarded to the clubs in question until a full investigation is completed.
